Adding Telugu or Hindi to your website sounds obviously worthwhile in an Indian market. Often it is. Sometimes it is a large amount of work that nobody reads. The difference comes down to who your buyers are and how they search.
When a regional language version pays off
It works when your customers genuinely search and read in that language: local retail, agriculture and farm equipment, healthcare, education, government-facing services, and consumer services in district towns like Warangal and Nizamabad.
It rarely pays off for B2B, IT services, or premium consumer services in the Gachibowli and Madhapur corridors, where the searches stay in English even among fluent Telugu speakers.
Check before building. Your Search Console query report and Google Business Profile searches will tell you which language your traffic already arrives in.
Build it properly or not at all
Separate URLs per language
Use subdirectories — /te/ and /hi/ alongside the English pages. Never swap languages with JavaScript on the same URL; search engines will only ever index one version.
hreflang tags
Each version must declare itself and point to its counterparts. Without this, Google may treat the pages as duplicates or serve the wrong one to the wrong user.
Human translation
Machine translation of marketing copy reads badly in Telugu and Hindi, and badly translated text damages trust more than English-only would have. Translate the key pages well rather than every page cheaply.
Fonts and rendering
Indic scripts need fonts that support the full character set and render conjuncts correctly. Test on real Android devices — desktop previews hide most of the problems.
Let the user choose
Offer a visible language switcher. Never force a language based on IP address; plenty of Hyderabad visitors want English, and plenty of Delhi visitors want Telugu.
A cheaper middle path
Translate only the pages that matter — homepage, top services, contact — and keep the rest in English. Most of the benefit, a fraction of the cost and the ongoing maintenance.
